Course Summary

This qualification is designed for individuals who need skills to prepare for a vocational pathway qualification or further foundation skills development. It is suitable for individuals who require:

  • a pathway to employment or vocational training
  • reading, writing, oral communication, learning and numeracy skills primarily aligned to the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 2
  • entry level digital technology and employability skills
  • education, training and employment goals

Foundation Skills Training Package qualifications may not be listed as an entry requirement for vocational qualifications.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:

11 units of competency:

  • 1 core unit and 10 elective units

The electives are to be chosen as follows:

  • up to 3 units may be selected from Group A (Numeracy units)
  • at least 5 units must be selected from Group B (Reading, writing, oral communication, learning and digital technology units)
  • 2 units must be selected from any currently endorsed training package qualification or accredited course other than FSK.
  • remaining units may be selected from any unit within the FSK training package or any currently endorsed training package qualification or accredited courses.

Elective units must be relevant to vocational pathways and not duplicate the outcomes of already selected units.

Entry Requirements

To help us understand how best to support you, you’ll need to complete the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy, numeracy and digital literacy assessments to progress your application. Alternatively, completion of an equal or higher level course may exempt you from this testing.

Where the bksb pre-assessment identifies a learner’s skills as below Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF), additional language and literacy pre-assessments are required to assess for potential funding support opportunities for learners. A Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) specialist from the ALC VET team will contact prospective students to arrange these assessments. 

During your Study:

Students must have access to a computer and the internet or be able to attend a CQUniversity campus or local council library. Basic computer skills are recommended, or a willingness to develop these skills during the course.

Course Structures
Online Standard Course Structure

The full course is typically delivered over a thirty four (34) week period; however, as it is competency based, it may be possible for learners to complete their training sooner if they have reached the required skill level. Full time students will be required to study a minimum of 15 hours per week for a suggested full time study load, and this includes assessment preparation.

Delivery Detail (Amount of Training) This qualification is self-paced and online training, using learning materials within the Moodle Platform containing video and verbal overview on content. This course comprises of 11 units with an average of 15 hours per week for the recommended full-time study load over 34 weeks.

FSK10219 Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways is an online self-paced learning course which provides learners with support for the development of foundation skills needed to prepare for a vocational pathway qualification or further foundation skills development.

 

Upon successful completion of this course, graduates will have developed foundation skills to prepare them on a pathway to employment or for further vocational training of their choice.

This course is ideal for:

  • Jobseekers re-entering the workplace
  • Early school leavers seeking to recommence study
  • Individuals with learning barriers, who would benefit from a supported learning environment

This course covers a range of nationally accredited units of competence, which covers the following skill sets:

  • Career, Employment and Training
  • Workplace Interaction
  • Math at Work
  • Read/Write Workplace Information & Texts
  • Use Business Technology

How you will be supported through your course:

Specialised language, literacy and numeracy teachers are available to support and guide students through their study.

  • The course also offers a pre-recorded step-by-step narrative for each lesson to assist learners who may have difficulty with reading and comprehension.
  • Weekly tutorials will be held via zoom, where the teacher will support learners to consolidate learning and provide feedback on progress.

Enrolment Schedule:  Attention - Admission staff & Students 

Students are to be advised to enrol into the full qualification (11 units - 5 clusters) at time of enrolment.

Yes. Your history of study, skills and experience does matter. Consideration is given to your prior life and work experiences as well as formal and informal training. This may be applied using the national standard for Mutual Recognition or through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Documentary evidence will be requested.
