In today’s dynamic business environment, leadership and mentoring are game-changers—core skills that elevate consultants from competent to truly impactful. This unit empowers you to develop these essential capabilities, helping you influence change, guide others, and drive purpose-led outcomes. You will explore the power of transformational leadership, learning how to inspire collaborative teams and confidently navigate change. At the same time, you will delve into the art of mentoring—a powerful, long-term approach to supporting growth and development in others while sharpening your own leadership identity. Through real-world case studies and critical reflection, you will examine values, motivation, personality, and the use of power to shape individual and team performance. You will also discover how culture and context influence the effectiveness of different leadership and mentoring styles. Importantly, this unit connects leadership and mentoring to global impact. You will explore how business consultants and organisational leaders—both internal and external—can align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), turning businesses into catalysts for positive social change while still meeting stakeholder expectations. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 6-credit Postgraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

The unit was reported by the students as very engaging, productive and added to their understanding of transformational leadership in business consulting
Recommendation
The focus of the unit and the materials. The assessments aligned with the graduate attributes expected by the profession.
Action Taken
The unit material such as lecture material (slides and recordings) has been improved and updated. Marking rubrics and assessments will be improved in the next term.

The unit did not include industry guest speakers. Thus limiting students ability to understand how transformational leadership relates to leadership within consulting firms
Recommendation
Future iterations of the unit could include guest speakers from the business consulting profession.

Consideration should be given to continuing to schedule classes late afternoon and early evening

The current three-assessment model aims to develop different skills and attributes of students. Assessment 1- individual essay, Assessment 2- Video, and Assessment 3- Take home exam.
