Unit Synopsis
This capstone unit in the Bachelor of Information Technology course is designed to enable students to demonstrate and integrate the knowledge, technical capabilities, and professional skills they have developed throughout their studies before transitioning to the next stage of their careers. Students are required to apply the skills gained in earlier core and specialisation units by undertaking an authentic group project or industry-based project that reflects real-world challenges across Application Development, Artificial Intelligence, Business Data Analytics, and Cyber Security domains. Through critical thinking, innovative analysis, and problem-solving, students will apply and document project management processes, demonstrate domain-specific ICT knowledge, and develop professional artefacts and technical documentation that can contribute to a work portfolio for future employment while following relevant industry standards, ethical practices, and contemporary development frameworks. Skills will be demonstrated through the completion of an ICT group project, in which students will produce relevant artefacts for analysis, design, modelling, implementation, testing, and evaluation, and generate a comprehensive project report based on established professional principles. Depending on the project context, students may develop AI-enabled applications, business analytics solutions, cybersecurity risk mitigation strategies, secure enhancements, or software and application development solutions using appropriate industry standards, methodologies, and development frameworks such as Agile, DevOps, secure development practices, and data governance principles. Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, students will identify stakeholder requirements, assess risks and system vulnerabilities, communicate regularly with stakeholders and supervisors, participate in technical progress meetings, and effectively manage project change, collaboration, quality assurance, and professional responsibilities within contemporary ICT project environments.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 12-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 25 hours of study per week, making a total of 300 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
- Analyse project requirements to produce a comprehensive project plan
- Apply project management principles to manage a project effectively
- Design, implement, and test ICT solutions involving multiple interacting components, in accordance with the documented project plan
- Demonstrate professional ICT practice through effective teamwork, technical communication, evidence of technical readiness, and adherence to ethical standards in ICT projects.
The Australian Computer Society (ACS), the professional association for Australia's ICT sector, recognises the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA). SFIA is adopted by organisations, governments, and individuals in many countries and provides a widely used and consistent definition of ICT skills. SFIA is increasingly being used when developing job descriptions and role profiles. ACS members can use the tool MySFIA to build a skills profile.
This unit contributes to the following workplace skills as defined by SFIA 9 (the SFIA code is included).
