Construction managers plan and organise, and control activities relating to high and low-rise buildings including residential, commercial and government projects. In this course, you will learn about the process of building construction from land planning and building legislation, procurement, risk management, contract administration, and the use of building information modelling (BIM) as it applies to construction.
As a construction manager, you will apply project management principles throughout the construction project cycle to meet key project performance objectives including time, cost, quality, safety, and sustainability ensuring successful project delivery. You will have the opportunity to gain crucial lifelong learning and transferable generic skills, such as critical thinking and problem-solving. The course has been designed in a manner you can study the final year opting through three streams: research stream, practicum stream and internship stream.
The Research Stream provides you with the opportunity to engage in applied research for a project relevant to the construction industry. If you opt for the research stream your project can be based on either your workplace or issues that are important to your profession. The research stream also meets the eligibility requirements for Ph.D. admission, making it a suitable pathway for those planning an academic career, as it satisfies the required proportion of research components within the Master's program.
The Practicum Stream will offer opportunities to engage with authentic construction management practices in a structured, contemporary learning environment. Alternatively, you can opt for the Internship Stream, and if you are eligible, you will be placed at a host organisation to further develop your skills and competencies and obtain authentic experience in Construction Management.
Construction managers plan, organise and control activities associated with a wide range of building projects. Employment opportunities exist in government departments, construction, building and sub-contracting companies, federal, state and local government departments and authorities and corporations with a large building portfolio.

PPMP20017 - To be eligible, students need to apply for an internship, pass all units on the first try, and complete all other units in their study plan prior to undertaking an internship. There is a minimum GPA requirement of 5.75. Students will undergo a series of interviews with providers and potential internship host organisations before being placed with a host. They will spend 10 consecutive weeks with the internship host organisation, applying the knowledge gained over the course of study. 4 days a week for total 10 weeks. It applies 9.00am to 05.00pm working hours for a day working; therefore, 7.25 hours per day and 29 hours per week for total 10 weeks. |

Internship Stream
To be eligible, you need to apply for an internship, pass all units on the first try, and complete all other units in your study plan prior to undertaking an internship. There is a minimum GPA of 5.75. To ensure these criteria are met prior to forwarding eligible applications to WIL for processing, the Student Advisers review all applications. You will undergo a series of interviews with providers and potential internship host organisations before being placed with a host. Generally, internship you will spend 10 consecutive weeks with the internship host organisation, applying the knowledge you have gained over the course of study before returning to the campus to present your learning experience.
The internship is scheduled for you to take it in your last term of study and associated assessments will need to be completed throughout the term. You are strongly advised to consult course advisers for an effective and suitable study planner ensuring the course completion within the shortest possible time.
