Overview
Proposed Unit Synopsis In this unit, you will practice nursing care in the complex care environment. You will apply the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Registered nurse standards for practice (2016). You will continue to explore the importance of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards (2017) and apply the Patient Safety Competency Framework (PSCF) (Levett-Jones et al., 2017). You will be expected to identify risk and recognise and respond appropriately to the deteriorating patient in the simulated and clinical environment. You will work within your scope of practice using the decision-making framework (NMBA, 2020). You are required to participate in a compulsory four (4) day residential school prior to attending professional experience placement for this unit. This unit includes a 160 hour block professional experience placement in a complex care environment. You must meet specific mandatory health, safety and security requirements to be eligible to attend your professional experience placement. Professional experience placements may be limited in your community and you may be placed in other locations. Please be prepared financially and personally to cover the costs to relocate for placements. Due to the limited availability of placements, some block placements have start and/or end dates that fall outside standard term dates.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Aim
The aim of this assessment is for you to demonstrate your ability to perform basic maths, medication calculations, and understanding of medication safety.

Before attending the residential school:

The invigilated online quiz will occur on Day 2 of your Professional Experience Placement 4 (PEP 4) residential school.
Please follow the steps below to complete this invigilated online assessment task:
You are completing an online quiz in Moodle. The quiz will assess your knowledge and understanding of performing basic maths, medication calculations, and assess your understanding of medication safety.
The invigilated online quiz will occur on Day 2 of your PEP4 residential school.
Access the quiz via the Assessment 1 portal on the NURS13142 Moodle site.
The quiz consists of 20 questions. Each question is worth 1 mark.
You have a maximum of 60 minutes to complete the quiz. You must complete the quiz in one sitting. Once you start the quiz, you must complete it in 60 minutes. The quiz will automatically close at the end of 60 minutes and will submit your result even if you have not finished.
You can have a maximum of 3 attempts for the quiz. The highest result will be recorded as your grade.
Once you have started the quiz, you cannot log out. Please do not refresh or reload your screen as this may close the quiz and record your result.
If you have any technical issues let the teacher or unit coordinator/s know immediately. We will assist you with resolving the issue or refer you to TASAC for further assistance (toll-free phone number 1300 666 620).
Requirements
You will have a maximum of three (3) attempts to obtain 100%. Please refer to the Coaching process for medication calculations and safety quiz should you require a 2nd or 3rd attempt. Failure to achieve 100% after three attempts may result in a Fail grade and you may not be able to progress to clinical placement.

Resources
Medication formulas can be used to assist you in your calculations. You may also use a calculator, pen/pencil, and blank paper. Calculator applications on mobile phones or any other smart device with internet access will not be permitted during this assessment.
Academic Integrity
Quiz questions are drawn from a bank and will be randomised.
You must abide by the principles of academic integrity (see Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure). Completion of this assessment with another party or sharing of responses is not permitted at any time.
The use of any generative artificial intelligence is not permitted within this assessment.
Submission
You will complete this invigilated assessment online via the NURS13142 Moodle site. Click save after each question. Click submit at the end of the quiz and your answers will be automatically submitted.
Minimum Pass Criteria
You must achieve 100% to pass this assessment.
In the event you are eligible for a supplementary assessment, all assessment tasks must be reasonably attempted in this unit.
You will undertake your first attempt of this assessment on day two of residential school.
Results for the quiz will be available immediately after the attempt is complete.

Aim
The aim of this assessment is for you to demonstrate your ability to successfully embed learning from this unit into Professional Experience Placement as a third year Bachelor of Nursing student.
Instructions
To complete this assessment, you are required to:
1. Complete the Facilitator/preceptor notification form and submit on SONIA on day 1 of placement.
2. Maintain an accurate Record of Attendance timesheet with each shift co-signed by an RN, preceptor or clinical facilitator.
3. Complete a formative ANSAT midway through your placement. This requires you to undertake the following steps:
a. Complete the Student formative self-assessment form in SONIA and submit to your assessor when nearing the midway point of placement.
b. Engage in discussion with your assessor after they have completed their feedback in the Formative Assessment in SONIA.
c. The Unit Coordinator will review your ANSAT assessment, add comments and sign it. If you have a score below 3, a learning support plan may be implemented to provide you with clear performance expectations and goals.
d. Review the Unit Coordinator’s comments and complete the Student Declaration and signature section at the end of your formative ANSAT. You will receive an email notification when this is available (Completing these steps will trigger the release of the summative ANSAT).
4. Complete a summative ANSAT near the end of your placement:
a. Complete the Student summative self-assessment form in SONIA and submit to your assessor near the completion of your placement.
b. Your assessor will complete your Summative Assessment in SONIA and discuss your assessment and feedback with you.
c. You will be notified by email to complete the Student declaration and signature section on your summative ANSAT.
d. A score of 3 or higher for each ANSAT criterion on the summative ANSAT assessment is required to pass the summative assessment. If you do not meet each ANSAT criteria at a 3 or above on your summative assessment, you may receive a Fail grade for the Unit.
5. The Unit Coordinator will review your summative assessment, check the hours recorded on your Record of Attendance, and assign a grade.
Requirements
Attendance of clinical placement is mandatory for this unit.
To be eligible for a Pass grade for this unit, you must complete 160 hours of Professional Experience Placement and achieve a score of 3 or higher on the summative ANSAT assessment.
If you are not meeting satisfactory practice standards at any point of the placement, a meeting will be scheduled with you, the facilitator and the Unit Coordinator to discuss your progress. A support plan may be implemented to assist you to satisfactorily meet the ANSAT criteria. If you do not meet each ANSAT criteria at a satisfactory level at the Summative assessment, you may receive a Fail grade for this assessment.
Any unsatisfactory performance that jeopardises the safety of people in your care or which does not adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Registered nurse standards for practice, Code of professional conduct, Code of ethics, and/or Social media Policy’s criteria may result in you being removed from placement. Please refer to The Work-integrated Learning-Student Placement Policy and Procedure that can be found on the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Moodle site.
As a nursing student representing CQUniversity, you are required to comply with CQU student nurse uniform requirements and the CQU student Charter during your professional experience placement. Please refer to Work-integrated Learning-Student Placement Policy and Procedure that can be found on the WIL Moodle site.
Assessment Criteria
Students are assessed against the Australian Nursing Standards Assessment Tool (ANSAT). A copy of this is available to you through SONIA.
Any unsatisfactory performance that jeopardises people's safety in your care or that does not adhere to the NMBA Registered nurse standards for practice, Code of professional conduct, Code of ethics, A nurse's guide to professional boundaries, and Social media policy criteria, may result in your placement being cancelled.
Submission
Submit a copy of your Record of Attendance to the submission area on the NURS13142 Moodle site. If you have used an online timesheet in SONIA, please print this when you have completed your placement. Your finalised Record of Attendance must be submitted within 3 days of completing your placement. Your grade cannot be finalised until this step has been completed.
Assessment Criteria
You are required to attempt and submit all assessment items in this unit.
Unit Engagement
You must engage in all learning resources in this Unit.
You will be assessed against the ANSAT during your professional experience placement.
Your record of attendance must be uploaded to the NURS13142 Moodle site within three (3) days of completion of your placement. Your summative ANSAT and record of attendance will be marked within seven (7) days. Your result will be available to view immediately after marking has been completed.
