Overview
In this unit, you will explore a range of professional issues that you may encounter as part of the clinical practice of chiropractic. You will discuss issues which are important to both the profession as a whole and to you as an individual practitioner. Topics covered will include those pertaining to patient care, the role of the chiropractor within the broader health care system and compliance with the ethical and legal requirements of practice. In addition to sharing your own ideas with colleagues, you will hear from experts on these matters from a range of professional backgrounds.

Co-requisite: CHIR20011
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Postgraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of 'pass' in order to pass the unit. If any 'pass/fail' tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully ('pass' grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the 'assessment task' section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). 1 Portfolio
You will analyse two case studies involving complex ethical dilemmas in chiropractic practice. You will apply ethical principles, legal considerations, and professional standards to propose well-reasoned resolutions for each scenario. This will develop your ability to navigate complex ethical issues and enhance your decision-making skills in a professional healthcare context. Term specific instructions will be provided on Moodle. This assessment is to be your own individual work and not a result of collaboration with other students. Any identified cases of potential collusion will result in a breach of academic integrity case being raised. It is expected that you might consult generative AI when considering these cases however this should not form a part of your submission.

2 Online Quiz(zes)
Each quiz will be composed of topical short answer questions and reflection on ethical and professional considerations pertaining to patient care, the role of the chiropractor and compliance with the ethical and legal requirements of practice.
Quizzes will open on Monday at 6:00am and close Thursday at 11:59pm of weeks 4, 8 and 12. Each quiz will be set for one hour. Your quiz is to be your own individual work and not a result of collaboration with other students. Any identified cases of potential collusion will result in a breach of academic integrity case being raised. You will be able to use any available resource to answer your questions (where applicable) however, you are expected to demonstrate use of the resources provided to you. If additional resources are used, these must be referenced including any use of generative AI.
