Course Summary

Computer formatting skills are essential in higher education. This online micro-credential will explore the key computing skills required for higher education and explain the Microsoft Word processing techniques required to correctly format an academic essay and an academic report.

Students who successfully complete the CQUniversity School of Access Education's Essential Computing Skills for University set of 4 micro-credentials, may receive a unit exemption from the equivalent CL03 Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) unit with CQUniversity.

To be eligible for this exemption, students must have completed:

  1. Computing Skills: Essay and Report Formatting
  2. Basic Excel Spreadsheet Operation
  3. How to Create a PowerPoint Presentation
  4. Essential Computing Skills: Assessment Module.

This online micro-credential provides a digital badge which can be shared to your social networks and displayed in your professional portfolio.

Our micro-credentials are available for anyone to access. You do not have to be a CQUniversity student. 

For this micro-credential you will need access to the following IT resources: 

  • Full licensed version of Microsoft Office 2019 or 365 (but no older than 2016; including Word, Excel and PowerPoint), or Office for MAC (if using a MAC instead of a PC)
  • Access to a full PC or MAC based computer. NOTE: This unit CANNOT be sufficiently completed using a phone, ipad or tablet (such as a Google Chromebook device).

How to Apply

Student Outcomes, Career Opportunities and Occupations

Undertaking this micro-credential enables students to meet their Continuing Professional Development obligations and industry update requirements in their profession. Upon successful completion of the micro-credential, students will be awarded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, a Digital Badge and a Certificate of Completion.

Students who successfully complete the set of 4 micro-credentials* developed from the unit COIT40206 Computing Skills for University, (which forms part of the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03), may be eligible for exemption, pending all other entry requirements to the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03 are being met, as automatic entry will not apply.
