Neuromyths abound, and many teachers believe them! This course addresses the Australian Government's Strong Beginnings Report requirements on the brain and learning in neuromyths.
In this micro-credential, you will learn how to debunk prevalent neuromyths - misconceptions about the brain's functioning and learning processes. You will learn about popular beliefs such as left-brain/right-brain dominance, learning styles, we only use 10% of our brain, and how to use scientific evidence to separate fact from fiction.
You will delve into the fascinating world of neuroplasticity and gain a deeper understanding of the brain's remarkable learning ability and how students master knowledge. Using evidence-based neuroscientific research findings, you will cover topics such as synaptic plasticity, brain circuits, the importance of building upon prior learning, normalising the learning curve, habit forming, and the role of experience and practice in shaping brain connectivity and changing the very form and function of the brain daily.
You will learn the practical implications for education, including evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions that capitalise on neuroplasticity. This includes moving to more challenging problem-solving and independent practice to solidify changes in student neurology.
Our micro-credentials are aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
