Mathematics is used to solve many types of problems. This online micro-credential will introduce you to concepts in geometry and trigonometry to solve application problems.

Students who successfully complete the CQUniversity School of Access Education's Intermediate Mathematics: Concepts and Skills set of 9 micro-credentials, may receive a unit exemption from the equivalent CL03 Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) unit with CQUniversity.

To be eligible for this exemption, students must have completed:

  9. PDC87417 Intermediate Mathematics - Concepts and Skills: Assessment Module.

Undertaking this micro-credential enables students to meet their Continuing Professional Development obligations and industry update requirements in their profession. Upon successful completion of the micro-credential, students will be awarded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, a Digital Badge and a Certificate of Completion.

Students who successfully complete the set of 9 micro-credentials* developed from the unit MATH40228 Intermediate Mathematics for University, (which forms part of the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03), may be eligible for exemption, pending all other entry requirements to the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03 are being met, as automatic entry will not apply.

  1. Use terminology associated with lines, angles and plane shapes to label triangles
  2. Find the perimeter and area of plane and composite shapes
  3. Calculate the volume of prisms, pyramids, spheres and combined solids
  4. Use Pythagoras’ theorem to find side lengths of right triangles
  5. Use sine, cosine and tangent ratios to determine the value of sides and angles of right triangles
  6. Solve application problems for right triangles including angles of elevation and depression.
