This qualification reflects the role of a variety of workers who use a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge to provide assistance to Health Professional staff for the care of clients. The role of a Health Services Assistant would involve direct client contact under supervision by a Health Professional. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must undertake work placement as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
Basic Key Skills Builder (bksb) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrollment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.
Students must complete a Vocational Placement and/or Work Integrated Learning as part of this qualification.
Additional information
To complete this course, you will be required to complete an approved work placement of 40 hours. Students who are currently working in a relevant role may be eligible to undertake placement with their existing employer, subject to approval from the relevant Educational Team Leader and agreement from the employer.
You will be required to complete a Placement Application Form. This form allows you to apply for approval to complete your placement within your workplace or alternatively, request to attend a CQUniversity-sourced placement. If your workplace does not meet the required criteria for the training package to undertake your placement hours then, CQUniversity will arrange a work placement for you.
CQUniversity’s Workforce Integrated Learning (WIL) team will aim to source a placement located within your community; however, circumstances may require you to relocate to complete the placement.
Mandatory placement checks are compulsory for this course and it is important that students ensure they can meet the requirements for these checks. This program will be delivered over 12 months.
Students will have access to on-line resources and assessments via the CQU Moodle and other relevant resources.
Students will be supported by face to face delivery, telephone, email and ZOOM sessions. Students will also have access to on-line Library resources and learning support. Students will also be required to complete on job assessment with third party verification.
Students must attend practical skills workshops that includes a summary of the unit learning material, followed by practical/simulated skills assessments. Students must have successfully commenced or completed the Unit written assessments in Moodle units prior to attending the practical skills workshop.

Residential School Information
As this course is delivered through a blended delivery method (Mixed Mode), students will be required to undertake one (1) x two (2) day residential school block as scheduled by CQUniversity* to prepare for vocational placements.
Residential classes will be held from 8am to 4pm on Mondays to Thursdays. *Residential school dates will be provided by your teacher in accordance with your commencement intake and course progression. Students are advised to confirm dates with their teacher prior to arranging travel and personal arrangements.
Mandatory Check Requirements
As per the CQU Immunisation Policy and for patient and student safety, students are required to meet Mandatory Check Requirements prior to completing their Vocational Placement.

Vocational Placement
Students are required to:
- Meet Mandatory Check Requirements as per the CQU Immunisation Policy and for patient and student safety.
- Complete a mandatory work placement of at least 40 hours of direct support work in at least one aged care, home and community, disability or community service organisation, and
- Meet the assessment conditions per unit of competency, which includes work placement and/or simulated assessment. Depending upon the capacity of the health care providers/facilities in the student’s geographical area, students may be expected to travel to an alternative location to complete their prescribed work placement. Students will only be offered one placement per student, per course, per term.

Resource and Computing Requirements
It is a requirement that you have access to internet connection to access online resources which would include email, ZOOM, Microsoft Teams and Moodle.
It is strongly recommended that you have access to a broadband connection or higher to access online resources that would include but are not limited to, email, internet, video streaming, electronic assessment submission.
All submissions of assessment must be uploaded electronically to the VET Moodle platform.
