Requirements - To Be Eligible

For your application to be considered, you must meet the following entry requirements.

To help us understand how best to support you, you’ll need to complete the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy, numeracy and digital literacy assessments to progress your application. Alternatively, completion of an equal or higher level course may exempt you from this testing.

To apply for this course at CQ University, you will need to be 15 years of age before the commencement date of your chosen intake. 

Start TAFE Now students must commence this qualification in Year 10 (and 15 years of age) or Year 11.

Start TAFE Now students must supply a completed and signed Start Study Now Authorisation form. 

There are no other entry requirements for this course.

Requirements - During Your Study

While not needed to apply, you'll need to meet the following requirements throughout your studies.

Students are required to purchase various items of arts supplies for this program.

This includes, but is not limited to:

•  Access to a computer/study hub
• Access to the internet and other information sources
• Access to Zoom or Microsoft Teams and webcam (integrated camera)
• Memory stick
• Printer/scanner
• Equipment, tools and materials required to produce drawings:

• • Charcoal

• • • Compressed
    • Willow charcoal (various thicknesses)

• • Watercolours
  • Cartridge paper
  • A notebook
  • A4 for printing/photocopying
  • Butcher’s paper 
  • Inks/pens
  • Pencils (various grades), including B-6B and HB
  • Eraser
  • Sharpener
  • Drawing board (can be a large piece of smooth ply or MDF)
  • Sketch book (A3) 
  • Ruler
  • Workstation
  • Blending materials
  • An easel (you can set this up using a table and the drawing board if necessary)
  • Bull-dog clips (4) or roll of masking tape
  • Box of tissues
  • Apron or old shirt
  • Paper towel or cleaning cloths
  • Water container or glass jar c
  • Camera or smartphone for documenting your work

Students enrolled in CUA31125 Certificate III in Visual Arts must be able to communicate effectively, engage with introductory art theory and practice, safely use a range of visual arts materials and equipment, participate in collaborative and independent learning activities, and meet workplace health and safety requirements.

Skills acquired in this program may be relevant to the production of goods suitable for markets and gift galleries. Some candidates may produce work relevant to commercial fine art galleries.
