Course Details

Course Summary

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a limited range of tasks relating to identifying and inspecting mechanical and electrical components and systems of light vehicles, heavy vehicles, outdoor power equipment, bicycles, marine craft and motorcycles. This qualification also covers the skills and knowledge required to perform minor maintenance and repair of an automotive vehicle body. The range of technical skills and knowledge is limited.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. 

Requirements - To Be Eligible

For your application to be considered, you must meet the following entry requirements.

Language Literacy Numeracy and Digital Literacy

To help us understand how best to support you, you’ll need to complete the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy, numeracy and digital literacy assessments to progress your application. Alternatively, completion of an equal or higher level course may exempt you from this testing.

Entry Requirements

To apply for this course at CQUniversity, you will need to be 15 years of age before the commencement date of your chosen intake.

Start TAFE Now students must be in Year 11 or 12.

Start TAFE Now students must supply a completed and signed Start Study Now Authorisation form.

While not needed to apply, you'll need to meet the following requirements throughout your studies.

PPE and Resource Requirements

Students enrolled in AUR20720 Certificate II in Automotive  Vocational Preparation will be required to provide and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while participating in practical workshop activities. This includes:

  • Safety boots (steel-capped)
  • Safety glasses
  • Appropriate workshop clothing 

CQUniversity will provide access to:

  • Automotive workshop facilities
  • Light vehicle training resources and equipment
  • Specialist automotive tools and equipment
  • Diagnostic and testing equipment
  • Training vehicles and components
  • Learning and assessment resources
  • Access to computers and relevant software where required
    All practical activities will be conducted in accordance with CQUniversity's Workplace Health and Safety requirements and safe operating procedures to ensure a safe learning environment.

Student Outcomes, Career Opportunities and Occupations

This course is a mechanical pathway that provides an introduction to the automotive fields of heavy vehicles (diesel fitting), light vehicles and auto-electrical. Possible career outcomes could lead to a trades assistant, vehicle service assistant, automotive service assistant, trainee service person, automotive trainee.
