Budding horticulturists learn to identify plants and soil types, planting, pruning, nursery activities and communication, gaining a solid grounding in their career. This qualification underpins a range of work functions and job roles that can lead to a horticultural qualification.
There are no current Training Package entry requirements into this qualification.
Completion of the bksb (Basic key Skills Builder) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.

Practical Placement Information
Students studying online will be required to undertake a Practical Placement to meet practical competency requirements. The Practical Placement must be in a Horticulture setting where there is a qualified or experienced supervisor to sign off on third party documentation.
It is highly recommended for students studying on-campus to undertake a Practical Placement in a Horticulture setting. The Practical Placement is not mandatory for on-campus students due to practical competency requirements begin satisfied in class.
Work Experience requirements
Students studying online and who are not currently working in the Horticulture industry will be required to seek and complete work experience whilst studying, to meet practical competency requirements.
Within the work experience environment, there must be a supervisor available who has at least 2 years’ experience in the Horticulture industry, or must hold a relevant Certificate (more information will be provided by the teacher during the initial meeting). The supervisor will be responsible for signing off on third party reports which are required for practical observations for each unit of competency. Teaching staff will provide third party reports to students as part of unit assessment requirements.
It is not mandatory for students who are studying on-campus to complete work experience as practical requirements will be satisfied by in class activities.

Appropriate clothing long sleeve cotton shirt and cotton drill shorts or trousers for outdoor work
