This unit covers the performance of rescue procedures from live low voltage (LV) apparatus, not including overhead lines and underground cables in the workplace. It encompasses responsibilities for health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work. The Electrical Safety Regulation 2013 requires that a safety observer for energised electrical work is assessed as competent within the previous one year (the 2002 Regulation requires assessment within the previous six months). Those engaged in the electrotechnical industry are required to have this qualification as part of the licencing requirements and to carry out electrical work on live LV panels where a safety observer is required.
