This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct operational inspections of park or recreational facilities to identify hazards, existing and potential risks and non-conformities with Australian Standards and workplace health and safety requirements. The unit applies to individuals who conduct operational inspection of park facilities under broad direction, and take responsibility for their own work and for the quality of the work of others. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

The course is aimed at regional council workers, maintenance staff, and other relevant personnel who are responsible for the safety of park visitors and the effective operation of park facilities. It is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to manage risks and respond to emergencies in a timely and effective manner.

This course consists of theory and practical based competencies. Students will be required to complete the theory based training and assessment online, via the CQUniversity Moodle platform. Practical components will be delivered via a one (1) full day of mandatory on campus competency based training and assessment. It is expected that students will complete the theory component of this course over a six (6) week period.
