Unit learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  1. Investigate and develop a set of placement preferences and design a learning contract, including a developmental plan from Field Education 1
  2. Demonstrate appropriate use of self through critical self-reflection and complex problem-solving skills, including working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other diverse and marginalised communities
  3. Conduct assessments of service users' needs and implement appropriate intervention strategies integrating social work theories and collaborative methods
  4. Promote work practices consistent with the AASW code of ethics, practice standards and organisational policies and procedures and develop a justification of an emerging practice framework

Field Education is a key component of a social work course. All students studying social work are required to complete a 1000 hours of placement time in an agency over two placements as required by the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS) (2012). This unit is the last placement for students within an agency.
