Unit Synopsis

In this unit you will gain the knowledge, values and skills required for effective cross-cultural practice. You will examine the history of migration and migration policies and its impact on the experiences of culturally diverse communities in Australia. You will also explore key cross-cultural research literature for effective cross-cultural practice. You will have the opportunity to reflect on the impact of your personal and professional values on cross-cultural practice.

Pre-requisites: SOWK11014; SOWK11015.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

I really enjoyed this unit. The videos about the assessment requirements were clear and there were lots of resources to reinforce each week's learning material.

More opportunities for collaboration with teacher and other students would be welcomed.
Recommendation
The unit will continue to offer interactive ZOOM sessions designed around collaborative inquiry and peer learning. These sessions will be promoted through Moodle, with reminders highlighting their relevance to assessment and professional skill development.

Interactive Zoom sessions were scheduled and promoted through weekly Moodle announcements. Case-based activities and peer learning prompts were incorporated to encourage collaboration and discussion.

Recommendation
Continue to have the content for each respective week finalised and available prior to the week. Please note that the pre-recorded lectures for the term are NOT released all at once, but gradually as students progress through the term.

Weekly readings and assessment instructions were finalised prior to the start of the term. Lecture recordings continued to be released progressively, aligned with weekly learning progression.

I found this unit was very informative and relevant. I often found myself 'going down a rabbit hole' reading additional articles and journals related to cross cultural perspectives that I found intriguing.
