Unit Synopsis
On completion of this unit you will be able to articulate the relationship between medical conditions, pathophysiology, clinical assessment findings and management in the critical care context. You will be able to advocate for the appropriate use of clinical measurement assessments, demonstrate analysis, and interpret abnormal results with regard to underlying pathophysiology. You will also employ evidence-based knowledge and practice in the management of patients, incorporating the use of clinical problem solving and decision making.

Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Postgraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Recorded powerpoints are not engaging.
The PowerPoints are recorded reasonably verbatim, and the PowerPoint slides are also uploaded separately to accommodate different student learning needs. This is explained in the introduction to the unit. A variety of other resources, such as study guides, are also provided in the unit. Nonetheless, the recording of PowerPoints will be reflected upon and reviewed.
New content was added to the Moodle site but further lectures needed to further enhance engagement.

The hands on Ultrasound training was excellent. They were amazed that they were able to pick up such a complex skill in a short period of time.
Continue residential school as 2025 with lecture content embeded into the practical session.

The variety of complex scenarios with a diagnostic results and clinical decision making really consolidated the content and gave them confidence that they could apply it clinically.
Keep this complex diagnostic decision-making in the residential school and trial this style throughout the Moodle content.
