NURS20151 - Creating Meaningful Relationships
Unit Synopsis
This unit examines key principles, strategies, and approaches to engaging and interacting with diverse people with the lived experience of mental illness. You explore the physical, emotional, and behavioural reactions of people who experience stress, distress, and mental illness, examining how the reactions can affect your interactions with consumers and their families or carers. You also critically appraise the components of an ethical, therapeutic relationship in the context of recovery-oriented approaches to supporting diverse consumers and your interpersonal and therapeutic communication skills. Finally, you critically reflect on the importance of mental health nurses maintaining professional ethical boundaries, participating in regular reflective practice, and engaging in clinical supervision.
