Unit Synopsis
In this unit you will be introduced to the research process and elements of qualitative and quantitative research methods and elements of statistics frequently used in health related research. Ethical and moral issues related to the importance of protecting human rights during research will be identified and strategies used to prevent harm as a result of health research will be addressed. Further, you will explore the application of research to practice in supporting the health needs of clients. It is a requirement of this unit that you have access to the CQU website and Internet.

Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.
Assessment Tasks

|---|---|
| 1. Written Assessment | 10% |
| 2. Written Assessment | 10% |
| 3. Written Assessment | 30% |

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. Self Reflection
In general, the opportunity this course offers students to examine/investigate/research areas in the health field that have challenged their preconceptions on topics and issues has been received well. The value of the progressive assessments that build upon each other to make the creation of a research portfolio in the final assessment outcome, provides another learning experience for the students wishing to expand their knowledge and understanding within their field of study.
The 4 progressive assessments continue to build upon each other thereby fulfilling the recommendations.
