Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Overview

Recommended Student Time Commitment

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task Weighting
1. Presentation 50%
2. Portfolio 50%

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Previous Feedback

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Source: Unit Coordinator reflection
Feedback:
The current textbook (published in 2020) provides a solid foundation of theories and concepts. However, the real-world examples and discussion of performance and reward practices would benefit from being updated.

Recommendation:
To ensure the unit remains current and relevant, it is recommended to replace or supplement the textbook by incorporating updated case studies, practical examples, and contemporary perspectives, thereby providing students with access to the latest theories and real-world applications in managing employee performance and reward.

Action Taken:
Unit learning materials were reviewed and refined to strengthen the use of contemporary workplace examples, practical applications and case-based discussions. Supplementary learning resources were also reviewed to ensure that theoretical concepts were supported by relevant examples and practical applications. These improvements will continue to be incorporated and further developed in future offerings.

Feedback:
Usefulness of feedback

Recommendation:
Feedback on assessments is provided through detailed marking rubrics in Moodle and Turnitin, with additional written comments where appropriate. Students are encouraged to use this feedback to improve their future work. The Unit Coordinator is available to meet and discuss assessment feedback in further detail.

Action Taken:
Detailed assessment feedback continued to be provided through marking rubrics and written comments in Moodle and Turnitin. Students were encouraged to seek clarification and discuss their feedback with the Unit Coordinator to support improvement in subsequent assessments. These practices were positively reflected in the T1 2026 unit evaluation, with respondents reporting 100% positive responses for the usefulness of feedback and learning from assessments.

Feedback:
Students who responded to the unit evaluation reported very strong satisfaction with HRMT19012, with 100% positive responses across all seven evaluation measures, including learning materials, learning from assessments, usefulness of feedback, knowledge and skills, relevance to degree and overall satisfaction. To maintain the currency and relevance of the unit, learning materials will continue to be reviewed and updated to reflect contemporary developments in performance management and reward.

Recommendation:
Continue the effective teaching, assessment guidance and feedback practices implemented in T1 2026, including the use of interactive learning tools such as Padlet to support student engagement and collaborative learning. For future offerings, update the unit learning materials by incorporating the new Managing Employee Performance and Reward, 4th Edition (2026). Relevant textbook chapters, PowerPoint slides, videos, contemporary workplace examples, case studies and supplementary learning resources will be reviewed and updated accordingly.
