Unit Synopsis
This unit has a focus on the economic, social and individual dimensions of ageing in contemporary Australia with an emphasis on social innovation and positive outcomes. This will facilitate the development of knowledge and skills for working with the older person from a healthy ageing perspective. You will identify health, social and economic impacts of population ageing by investigating evidence from a range of sources relevant to you as a professional working in any area where you encounter the older person.

Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

A student requested that activities completed in workbooks should be discussed in tutorials or it should be a requirement to submit workbooks as 5% of the overall grade.
Workbook activities will be discussed in tutorials. Discussion of activities did occur this term but students were not always able to meet with the lecturer due to their other commitments. In the future, it will be emphasised to students that workbook activities will be discussed with the lecturer.

- Appraise the impact of an ageing population on individuals and contemporary Australian society, including the changing demographic profile
- Discuss the diversity in the ageing population in general, and the impact of this on older Australians and their health needs
- Explore the challenges and opportunities that older people in Australia face now and in the future
- Examine how the challenges and opportunities associated with ageing might be addressed through your own professional practice.
