Unit Synopsis
Gas turbine engines are an integral part of modern aircraft. In this unit, you will develop knowledge of the construction and operation of gas turbine engines and the associated sub-systems such as lubrication, starting and instrumentation. You will also learn about the engine installation process and ongoing monitoring procedures. You will develop skills in the maintenance of gas turbine engines and their associated sub-systems, gaining hands-on practical experience with different types of procedures, components and systems. This unit is delivered at Aviation Australia campuses by Aviation Australia staff in partnership with CQUniversity staff.

Prerequisite: Aircraft Structural Maintenance Practices AND ENTA11011 Analytical Methods and Physics for Aircraft Maintenance Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

- Analyse the configuration, construction and principles of operating gas turbine engines, including auxiliary power units
- Analyse the operation of gas turbine engine sub-systems such as fuel, air, ignition, indication, fire protection and power augmentation
- Describe powerplant installation, monitoring, ground operation, storage and preservation
- Describe how current maintenance practices could be adapted for future gas turbine designs
- Safely perform practical tasks with gas turbine engines and associated systems, demonstrating the appropriate application of theory.
