General Information

Unit Synopsis

An understanding of aviation legislation is critical for employees in the aviation business. Legislation informs and guides the safety of the industry and how every employee can play their part in contributing to aviation safety. Likewise, all operational aviation workers need an understanding of the limits of human performance and the factors that affect human performance. This unit covers the human factors and aviation legislation modules of the EASA Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance basic knowledge requirements syllabus. In this unit, you will study human performance and how it is affected by various factors such as the working environment, weather, human physiology and psychology. You will study the legislation and regulatory frameworks related to aircraft maintenance and the concept of airworthiness. This unit is delivered at Aviation Australia campuses by Aviation Australia staff in partnership with CQUniversity.

Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  1. Describe human performance, the limitations of human performance, human susceptibility to errors and managing errors, and the factors that affect human performance
  2. Describe aspects of social psychology and how people interact when working within teams
  3. Explain the effects on human performance in a degraded physical environment due to weather, noise, time of day and the presence of hazards
  4. Explain the aviation regulatory framework, with emphasis on the European aviation regulations and the role of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)
  5. Describe the legislation governing certifying staff, maintenance organisations, air operators, aircraft and aircraft components and the concept of airworthiness
  6. Describe national and international requirements for maintenance programs, documentation and aspects of air operation.
