Unit Synopsis
There is a wide variety of electrical equipment used within modern aircraft systems. This unit covers the electrical fundamentals module of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance basic knowledge requirements syllabus. In this unit, you will develop knowledge of electron theory, other electrical fundamentals, and how electrical power is generated, controlled and used in aircraft. You will study the DC and AC circuit fundamentals and the common hardware used aircraft electrical systems. You will also develop skills in the maintenance of electrical power systems, gaining hands-on practical experience with different types of systems, components and configurations. This unit is delivered at Aviation Australia campuses by Aviation Australia staff in partnership with CQUniversity. .

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

- Describe general concepts of electricity, including electron theory, electrostatics and conduction
- Explain the concepts of resistance, conductance, capacitance, inductance and their effects on DC and AC electrical circuits
- Discuss the operation of DC and AC motors and generators
- Discuss the construction and operation of transformers and filters
- Safely perform practical tasks using electrical power simulation equipment and aircraft electrical power systems, demonstrating the appropriate application of theory.
