BUSN20028 - Global Economics

General Information

Unit Synopsis

In this unit, you will explore how business environments are increasingly influenced by global economic forces. Volatile macroeconomic events can significantly impact organisational performance. You will gain an understanding of how contemporary macroeconomics explains shifts in the international economy, affecting stock and financial markets. Addressing these dynamic challenges requires developing a coherent framework to create a competitive advantage. This involves identifying emerging business opportunities and managing the risks inherent in a rapidly changing global economic order. You will examine key macroeconomics principles in the context of how open economies function and the interactions between key stakeholders. Transmission mechanisms are identified to explain how global economic events affect regions and nation-states. A macroeconomic perspective is provided to demonstrate the impact of government policies on crucial economic areas, including productivity, national output, unemployment, inflation, and household debt. Given the unpredictability of economic conditions, it is essential for leaders to make informed decisions about the causes and responses to financial crises, currency fluctuations, stock market volatility, and social or labour unrest. You will critically evaluate different perspectives and options regarding the role of government in managing economies.
