Unit Synopsis
In this unit, you will build upon your anatomical knowledge by examining the gross, topographical and relational anatomy of the human body. Additionally, you will gain a foundational understanding of medical imaging modalities and how they are applied in clinical scenarios. You will then apply your knowledge on human anatomy by reviewing the spatial characteristics of and relationship between anatomical structures, body planes, external and internal landmarks to interpret medical images at a foundational level. This unit will cover basic pattern and image recognition skills to enable you to identify normal anatomical structures and common pathologies on medical images, including cross-sectional images, acquired in multiple planes.

Pre-requisites: BMSC11007, BMSC11008 and BMSC12007 Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 12-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 25 hours of study per week, making a total of 300 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

The content and unit was challenging, however all aspects were extremely relevant for future studies and career.
Maintain and enhance delivery with additional practical and tutorial exercises.
Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (eFAST) ultrasound scanning hands-on practical sessions were incorporated, enabling students to better integrate theoretical anatomical knowledge with real-time imaging of the human body. Some tutorial exercises were amended to better utilize the face-to-face time with students.

Assessment item bank was expanded. Additional practice assessment materials were developed and made available to students well in advance of assessments to enhance understanding of assessment format and expectations.

Good overall satisfaction reflecting the unit effectively prepared students for their MD studies.
The exclusive use of Spotter OSCE and Viva-voce assessments aligned the Unit with MD assessment patterns and played a role in improving unit and course outcomes.

Expectation for more teaching on basic anatomy related to their earlier years' learning
Introducing brief revision sessions at the face-to-face tutorial time and re-recording selected lectures incorporating concise foundational overviews, while maintaining Unit's emphasis on encouraging independent revision.
