Assessment Tasks

1 Presentation

Assessment Title
Presentation

Task Description

Students must select a topic for this assessment task from the list on Moodle under the assessment tab. There is a restriction on the number of students who may select each topic. The topic list will be released for students to make their selection on Monday the 14th of July at 8:00am and will close on Friday the 18th of July at 5:00pm. Each topic will have a limited number of available slots, and students will be assigned based on the order in which selections are submitted. Any student who has not selected a topic by Friday the 18th of July at 5:00pm will be allocated to a topic by the unit coordinator.

There are two parts to this assessment task: Part A and Part B.

Part A

For Part A, you are required to create and record a presentation. Your recorded presentation needs to be professional and engaging. You will use the video record function in PowerPoint to create your presentation. Your recorded presentation must be no longer than 10 minutes. While the length of your presentation is not included in the marking rubric, the assessor will not watch or grade any content that exceeds 10 minutes. Your presentation must outline the following steps:

1. Your research question:

You must generate a question about the topic which follows the SPICE framework: Setting, Population or Perspective, Intervention, Comparison, Evaluation.

2. Your search strategy

You must design and execute a search strategy of peer-reviewed literature across at least two databases. Your two databases must be selected from the following list:

  • CINAHL
  • ERIC
  • PsycInfo
  • Pubmed
  • Scopus
  • MEDLINE

Your presentation should include information on:

  • Search terms used
  • Limiters applied, and
  • Number of articles generated from each database

3. A summary of the two best research articles you identified on the topic:

You must screen the articles identified as part of step 3 and select the two best articles which pertain to your topic. You must summarise each of the two articles including:

  • Full citation in reference list.
  • Background of authors.
  • Research questions.
  • Method.
  • Main findings.
  • Strengths and limitations.
  • Relevance to your research question.

4. A summary of response provided by CoPilot (artificial intelligence companion):

Pose your question to CoPilot in the same format as the research question developed in step 1. Summarise the response provided by CoPilot. You are permitted to upload a copy of the response from CoPilot as an appendix at the end of your PowerPoint slides.

5. A Comparison between CoPilot and the Peer-Reviewed literature:

You must compare, contrast and critically analyse the information you received from the literature with the information provided by CoPilot. To assist you in this process, prompt questions have been provided in the task description on Moodle.

6. Conclusion:

Reflect on and explain what you would do differently when using artificial intelligence to support research and clinical practice in the future.

Part B

For Part B, you are required to do the following:

1. Submit your presentation:

You must upload your PowerPoint file to the assessment folder in Moodle and to the designated Moodle Discussion Forum for all students to watch. Instruction have been provided in the task description on Moodle. Your assessment must be uploaded by Monday the 1st of September at 9:00am.

2. Watch a peer’s presentation and post a question:

You will be allocated a peer’s presentation to watch. You must watch your peer’s presentation and pose one question about their presentation. This question must be posted on the discussion forum by Friday the 5th of September at 9:00am. Please note the lecturer will also post one question for each presentation.

3. Answer the questions:

You must comprehensively respond to the question posed by your peer and the question posed by your lecturer by Wednesday the 10th of September, 9:00am. There is no word count limitation for students’ response to questions.

Grace Period

  • As this assessment task requires time-bound responses to peer's questions, the 72 hour grace period does not apply to this assessment.

Level of GenAI use allowed:

  • Level 4: You may use AI extensively throughout your work either as you wish or as specifically directed in your assessment. Focus on dictating AI to achieve your goals while demonstrating your critical thinking. Students must submit a GenAI declaration for this assessment task as specified in the task description. You must include the AI Declaration on the first slide following your title slide in your presentation, explaining if/how you used AI to support your work.

Assessment Due Date

Week 7 Monday (1 Sept 2025) 9:00 am AEST

You must upload your recorded presentation to both the designated Moodle Discussion Forum and the Moodle assessment portal by 9:00am Monday 1st September 2025. You must post your question for the other assigned presentation by 9:00am Friday 5th September 2025. You must answer the two questions posted for your presentation by 9:00am Wednesday 10th September 2025.

2 Case Study

Assessment Title
Case Study

Task Description

For this assessment, you will be required to complete a critical appraisal of a systematic review following the model taught in this unit. You will then make a recommendation for an intervention for a paediatric client. Your client’s case information will be released in Moodle on Monday 30th June 2025. This case information will include assessment results as well as client preferences and circumstances. The case materials will also include a systematic review article evaluating interventions that could be used to support your client.

You will be provided a Word document template with headings to use for this assessment. The template meets the Standard Formatting for Written Assessments described in the Speech Pathology Course Moodle. You must not alter any headings or any formatting (i.e., margins, font size, font style, spacing). Your completed document must not exceed 2,100 words, which includes all the words already included on the blank template (e.g., headings throughout, question prompts for the appraisal in Part A). The word limit also includes in-text citations but excludes your reference list and cover page. Any words that exceed the limit will not be read or included in the material that is marked. References must follow APA-7 format, per the requirements described in the 'Assessment Requirements' tile in the Speech Pathology Course Moodle.

There are two parts to this assessment:

Part A

For Part A, you will be required to consider external evidence by critically appraising the systematic review of interventions related to your assigned case study. For each of the 11 parameters to be appraised, you will:

  • Select your decision of Yes, No, or Unclear to indicate if that requirement was demonstrated in the systematic review article
  • Indicate the page number(s) in the systematic review article where you found the information relating to that requirement, and
  • Justify your decision.

You will conclude Part A by identifying which of the interventions included in the systematic review should be considered for your client.

Part B

For Part B, you will recommend one intervention for your client by weighing the external evidence from Part A against the internal evidence (assessment results) and client preferences and circumstances included in your case information. You will justify your decision and also explain if any adaptations to the recommended intervention is required in order to accommodate client preferences and circumstances.

Level of GenAI use allowed:

  • Level 3: You may use AI to assist with specific tasks such as drafting text, refining and evaluating your work. You must critically evaluate and modify any AI-generated content you use. Students must submit a GenAI declaration for this assessment task as specified in the task description. You must include the AI Declaration on your cover page, explaining if/how you used AI to support your work.
