Overview
In this unit you will investigate language and literacy development, assessment and intervention for children in the first five years of life. You will develop knowledge in how to support language and literacy needs for children who are culturally or linguistically diverse, have hearing loss or a disability. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health framework, and the principles of evidence-based, and interprofessional practice will be applied throughout the unit.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Feedback from SUTE comments and in-class comments
Students requested further opportunities to review and apply the content learnt in linguistics through self-paced online learning.
It is recommended that the unit coordinator develops further self-paced online learning activities for students to review and apply their knowledge of linguistics.
Feedback from Student representative feedback
Students indicated that some tutorials would benefit from being longer in length to allow time for hands-on learning.
It is recommended that the unit coordinator review the length of the tutorials.
