General Information

Overview

In this unit, you will develop a research proposal on a topic of your choice. To achieve this, you will follow a structured, step-by-step research process, commencing with formulating a research question and research objectives. You will examine and critique quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods designs. You will identify and retrieve a relevant body of research and literature, analysing and synthesising the findings into a coherent literature review. By identifying gaps in the literature, you will develop a justifiable rationale for your topic and design an appropriate research proposal. You will evaluate any ethical challenges in line with the AASW Code of Ethics and human research ethics guidelines and develop a feasibility strategy for your proposed study, ensuring the research is ethically and practically achievable.

Pre-requisites: SOWK29001 Ethical and Legal Issues in Practice SOWK28005 Social Work Field Education 1

Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
