This unit is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics, processes, and techniques for effective social group work and family work. You will explore key theories and social work practices to prepare you to navigate various group and family work situations. Additionally, you will develop skills that will allow you to work with groups in various configurations ultimately enhancing your ability to enact positive change in the lives of individuals, families, and communities.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of 'pass' in order to pass the unit. If any 'pass/fail' tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully ('pass' grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the 'assessment task' section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Consult the University's Grades and Results Policy for more details of interim results and final grades.

1 Case Study
Task Description
The aim of this assessment is to demonstrate your understanding and application of family processes, models of family work, and practice skills within social group work and family work practice. You will focus your analysis on the case study provided in this unit’s Moodle site.

Completion of this assessment with another party or sharing of responses is not permitted at any time. This assessment requires students to adhere to the guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence tools as specified in the Artificial Intelligence Assessment Scale (AIAS). Any misuse or lack of disclosure regarding the use of AI tools will be considered a breach of academic integrity. CQUniversity Gen AI tools approved for use in this assessment are Microsoft CoPilot (protected version), Studiosity and Grammarly. You are permitted to use technology or tools that assist with spelling, grammar or formatting.
Level of GenAI Use Allowed: Level 2: You may use Al for planning, proof reading, checking spelling and grammar. Your final submission should show how you have developed and refined these ideas. You must complete the declaration of Gen AI use on the title page of your assessment.
Extensions

Minimum Pass Criteria
- To pass the unit, you must achieve a minimum of 49.5% for this assessment

2 Group Work
Task Description
The aim of this assessment is to examine how group work can be utilised as a method of change and what knowledge and skills are required for the purpose of facilitating change.
This assessment has two components: (1) Part A is a social group work program; (2) Part B is a reflection of your own and peer contributions to the group work process.

· Part B of the assessment may be resubmitted if approved by the UC. A reattempt may be approved if you have made a reasonable attempt at completion of the assessment but did not meet the learning outcomes, and/or there is no evidence of plagiarism in the original assessment submission.
· In the event you are eligible for a supplementary assessment, all assessment tasks must be reasonably attempted in this unit.
