Assessment Overview
Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of 'pass' in order to pass the unit. If any 'pass/fail' tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully ('pass' grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the 'assessment task' section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Consult the University's Grades and Results Policy for more details of interim results and final grades.

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses
Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.
Feedback from Email and in class
Students reported that it was difficult to find information in the lecture power points when it came to their review time as the power points were very long.
It is recommended that the lectures be reviewed to be subdivided into smaller topic presentations.
Feedback from Email and in class
Students report that their workload was diffcult to manage and when they fell behind in their study they had difficulty catching up.
It is recommended that the support strategy for students to manage workload throughout the term be reviewed.
Feedback from Email and in class
Students enjoyed the practical anatomy sessions and range of anatomical models available, although they would rather the assessment was conducted earlier than the last week of term.
It is recommended practical anatomy sessions continue and the timing of assessment be reviewed.
- Identify and describe anatomical and radiographic features of the head and neck with particular relevance to dental anaesthesia and patient examination
- Describe anatomy and physiology of the oral cavity with emphasis on innervation of oral structures, spread of infection, function of the temporomandibular joint and salivary glands

1 Practical Assessment
In clinical practice, oral health therapists are expected to have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the anatomical structures and functions of the head and neck, teeth and oral cavity. In preparation you will take part in practical learning activities with anatomical models, teeth models, and radiographs, as well as applying knowledge of anatomy to local anaesthesia techniques on a manikin. The multistation anatomy test is worth 25% of your overall mark. It consists of one multistation practical test which will take place in week 7.
The test consists of approximately 30 numbered stations and will take approximately 90 minutes in duration. Stations will include anatomical models, teeth, charts, photographs and radiographs. You will be asked to correctly name, identify, describe the function, and estimate the age of a dentition. Somes stations may require you to demonstrate a practical task and verbally answer a question.
Week 7 Thursday (29 Aug 2024) 5:00 pm AEST
Week 8 Friday (6 Sept 2024)
The multistation practical anatomy test is worth 25% of your overall mark. This is a must pass assessment. You will be assessed on correct identification and your understanding of normal anatomy, function and development of the facial, teeth and oral structures.
- Identify and describe anatomical and radiographic features of the head and neck with particular relevance to dental anaesthesia and patient examination
- Demonstrate appropriate oral and written communication skills, professional attitudes and ethical behaviours as required of an Oral Health Therapist.
2 Online Quiz(zes)
An understanding of the anatomy of the oral cavity, head and neck and the dentitions is essential for the Oral Health Therapist in clinical practice. To develop this knowledge and understanding it is necessary to become familiar with terminology used in the study of dental morphology and head and neck anatomy. Knowledge of terminology and important concepts will be assessed in the online quizzes assessment. Complete weekly practice questions to help you prepare for this assessment.
The quizzes include matching and multiple-choice questions which are chosen randomly from a bank of questions.
The first quiz opens Friday 9th August at 8.00 am and closes Friday 23rd August at 5.00 pm. This quiz tests learning material in weeks 1 - 4. This quiz is worth 10%.
The second quiz opens Friday 6th September at 8.00 am and closes Friday 20th September at 5.00 pm. This quiz tests learning material in weeks 5 -10. This quiz is worth 15%.

As a CQUniversity student you are expected to act honestly in all aspects of your academic work.
Any assessable work undertaken or submitted for review or assessment must be your own work. Assessable work is any type of work you do to meet the assessment requirements in the unit, including draft work submitted for review and feedback and final work to be assessed.
When you use the ideas, words or data of others in your assessment, you must thoroughly and clearly acknowledge the source of this information by using the correct referencing style for your unit. Using others’ work without proper acknowledgement may be considered a form of intellectual dishonesty.
Participating honestly, respectfully, responsibly, and fairly in your university study ensures the CQUniversity qualification you earn will be valued as a true indication of your individual academic achievement and will continue to receive the respect and recognition it deserves.
As a student, you are responsible for reading and following CQUniversity’s policies, including the Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure. This policy sets out CQUniversity’s expectations of you to act with integrity, examples of academic integrity breaches to avoid, the processes used to address alleged breaches of academic integrity, and potential penalties.
What is a breach of academic integrity?
A breach of academic integrity includes but is not limited to plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion, cheating, contract cheating, and academic misconduct. The Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure defines what these terms mean and gives examples.
Why is academic integrity important?
A breach of academic integrity may result in one or more penalties, including suspension or even expulsion from the University. It can also have negative implications for student visas and future enrolment at CQUniversity or elsewhere. Students who engage in contract cheating also risk being blackmailed by contract cheating services.
