Overview
This unit is designed to ensure you have the theoretical knowledge of food systems to work effectively as a nutritionist /dietitian. In this unit you will explore food service and food systems as critical drivers of individual, community, and population nutrition outcomes. You will critically analyse the complex challenges of food security, food waste, and environmental sustainability focusing on regional, rural, and remote contexts. You will synthesise knowledge of food legislation, regulations, and standards to develop, implement, and evaluate food supply chains. As an example of a food system, you will examine food service provision and management, taking into consideration menu planning, recipe standardisation, quality assurance, food safety, food legislation and business operations. In this unit you will also learn about local First Nations' food systems.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
Pre-requisite: Enrolment into CL88 OR enrolment with completion of 120 cp into one of CG93 Pre-Dietetics or Clinical Nutrition or Food Technology majors, CM60 Clinical Nutrition or Food Technology Minor, or CM61.
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
