Overview
This is your final unit in the Bachelor of Nursing which must commence and be completed in the final six months of your course. You will apply the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Registered nurse standards for practice (2016). You will continue to explore the importance of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards (2017) and apply the Patient Safety Competency Framework (PSCF) (Levett-Jones et al., 2017). You will be expected to identify risks and recognise and respond appropriately to the deteriorating patient in the simulated and clinical environment. You will work within your scope of practice using the decision-making framework (NMBA, 2020). You are required to participate in a compulsory four (4) day residential school prior to attending professional experience placement for this unit. This unit includes a 240-hour block professional experience placement to consolidate your knowledge, skills, and experiences prior to being deemed eligible for registration as a nurse (Division 1) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). You must meet specific mandatory health, safety and security requirements to be eligible to attend each professional experience placement. Professional experience placements may be limited in your community, and you may be placed in other locations. Please be prepared financially and personally to cover the costs of relocating for placements. Due to the limited availability of placements, some block placements have start and/or end dates that fall outside standard term dates.

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses
Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.
Feedback from In-class Feedback.
Students enjoyed the learning opportunities of the multiple-patient scenarios within residential school.
Continue incorporating multiple-patient scenarios to enhance students' teamwork, time management, prioritisation, and communication skills. These scenarios provide a realistic environment that prepares students for effective clinical practice and collaborative patient care.
Feedback from 2023 SUTE Unit Feedback.
"This was my favourite Res School. I enjoyed how all of our knowledge was consolidated, and we had the opportunity to work on skills that we individually felt we needed more practice on."
Continue providing deliberate practice sessions to address individual learning needs effectively. These sessions allow students to focus on specific skills and competencies, fostering confidence and competence through targeted, self-paced practice.
Feedback from Unit Coordinators.
It is recommended to continue supporting students on clinical placement through regular phone calls, timely emails, and 360° meetings involving students, clinical assessors, and unit coordinators to address any performance concerns as they arise.
This ongoing support enhances students' placement experience by providing real-time feedback, addressing learning needs promptly, and ensuring consistent communication among all parties involved. These measures help students remain on track with their learning objectives, fostering a supportive and responsive learning environment on placement.
Feedback from In-class Feedback.
Students highly valued the career planning session in residential school, which included practical interview practice, insights into graduate year expectations, and guidance from CQU Careers.
Maintain the career planning session as a key component of residential school. This session prepares students for transition to the workforce by enhancing their interview skills, providing essential information about the graduate year, and connecting them with valuable career resources.

2 Professional Practice Placement
Aim
The aim of this assessment is for you to demonstrate your ability to successfully embed learning from this unit into Professional Experience Placement as a third year, graduating Bachelor of Nursing student. Your Professional Experience Placement (PEP) is assessed within the Australian Nurse Standards Assessment Tool (ANSAT). The ANSAT is a tool for you and your assessor to record, reflect on and discuss your clinical learning against the Registered Nurse Standards of Practice (NMBA).
Instructions
You are required to:
1. Complete 240 hours of Professional Experience Placement and achieve a score of 3 or higher on each criterion on the summative ANSAT assessment.
2. Complete the Facilitator/preceptor notification form and submit on SONIA on day one (1) of placement.
3. The ANSAT will be provided to you electronically through the SONIA system which is located under the ‘forms’ section. You will receive an email via the WIL team with a link to the ANSAT form. Examples of the Formative and Summative Assessments are available on the WIL Moodle site.
4. Complete a Formative ANSAT at the end of 120 hours, or midway through your placement.
This requires you to undertake the following steps:
a. Complete the Student formative self-assessment form in SONIA and submit to your assessor when nearing the midway point of placement.
b. Engage in discussion with your assessor after they have completed their feedback in the Formative Assessment in SONIA.
c. The Unit Coordinator will review your ANSAT assessment, add comments and sign it. If you have a score below 3, a learning support plan may be implemented to provide you with clear performance expectations and goals.
d. Review the Unit Coordinator’s comments and complete the Student Declaration and signature section at the end of your formative ANSAT. You will receive an email notification when this is available (Completing these steps will trigger the release of the summative ANSAT).
5. Complete a Summative ANSAT at the end (last day) of your placement and the completion of 240 hours:
a. Complete the Student summative self-assessment form in SONIA and submit to your assessor at the completion (last day) of your placement.

As a CQUniversity student you are expected to act honestly in all aspects of your academic work.
Any assessable work undertaken or submitted for review or assessment must be your own work. Assessable work is any type of work you do to meet the assessment requirements in the unit, including draft work submitted for review and feedback and final work to be assessed.
When you use the ideas, words or data of others in your assessment, you must thoroughly and clearly acknowledge the source of this information by using the correct referencing style for your unit. Using others’ work without proper acknowledgement may be considered a form of intellectual dishonesty.
Participating honestly, respectfully, responsibly, and fairly in your university study ensures the CQUniversity qualification you earn will be valued as a true indication of your individual academic achievement and will continue to receive the respect and recognition it deserves.
As a student, you are responsible for reading and following CQUniversity’s policies, including the Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure. This policy sets out CQUniversity’s expectations of you to act with integrity, examples of academic integrity breaches to avoid, the processes used to address alleged breaches of academic integrity, and potential penalties.
What is a breach of academic integrity?
A breach of academic integrity includes but is not limited to plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion, cheating, contract cheating, and academic misconduct. The Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure defines what these terms mean and gives examples.
Why is academic integrity important?
A breach of academic integrity may result in one or more penalties, including suspension or even expulsion from the University. It can also have negative implications for student visas and future enrolment at CQUniversity or elsewhere. Students who engage in contract cheating also risk being blackmailed by contract cheating services.
Where can I get assistance?
For academic advice and guidance, the Academic Learning Centre (ALC) can support you in becoming confident in completing assessments with integrity and of high standard.
