Overview
This unit supports you in your preparation for your professional life beyond graduation. You will learn about contemporary perspectives on professional practice, professionalism, and careers, and you will develop your understanding of how these concepts are related to your future career choices. You will develop awareness of the labour market, as well as the competencies required in the pursuit of various career options. Throughout this unit, you will rely on self-analysis and reflection to establish your own level of competence and personal development needs. Based on understanding the environment, career options, and your current situation, you will strategise for future career success by setting career goals, working towards them, and planning for continued success through lifelong learning and continuous professional development.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
Anti-requisite: MGMT20147 Professional Practice and Career Development
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.
Feedback from Informal student feedback; self-reflection; students misunderstanding what professional bodies are.
Students often do not understand what professional bodies are and how these can be valuable for their careers.
Invite representatives of various professional bodies (e.g. Engineers Australia, AHRI (Australian HR Institution), Australian Marketing Institute) to deliver small guest speaker sessions about their organisation.
Feedback from Student feedback; tutor feedback.
Practical and career-relevant activities are useful and appreciated.
Continue the approach of focusing more on practical activities than theory. Keep involving the Careers team and their resources and tools.
