General Information

Overview

Law Practice Management assists students in making the transition from law school to legal practice. The unit provides a broad overview of how legal practices are managed and the role of the legal practitioner within legal practice structures in Australia. Topics include business models and strategy; risk management; professional standards and ethics; electronic practice management systems; automation and technological innovation including social innovation; sustainability, growth and marketing; financial management; self-management; and leadership. This unit is essential for students wanting to understand and research the business of law and prepare for the business aspects of legal practice, including the regulatory requirements of legal practice.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites

48 credit points of law units including LAWS11057.

Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
