Overview
This unit discusses the changing nature of employment relations. In this unit, you will assess the role of state, employers, unions and employees in employment relations within the context of a changing labour market. You will analyse the legal, political and economic framework within which employment relations take place. Contemporary issues will be highlighted and discussed.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
There are no requisites for this unit.
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Regular student communication and engagement
Continue regular communication with students through consistent announcements across the teaching term. It is recommended that the Unit Coordinator provide an announcement at the beginning of each week outlining key learning activities, priorities and upcoming assessment requirements, with a brief end-of-week announcement providing reminders and information relevant to the week ahead.

Opportunities for student self-assessment
Incorporate short, low-stakes knowledge checks or quizzes into the unit site at appropriate points throughout the term. These would provide students with opportunities to check their understanding of key concepts, identify areas requiring further revision, and consolidate their learning prior to assessment tasks.
