Overview
This unit is designed to introduce students to maintenance strategies, philosophies and procedures, including the basic principles of asset management systems. Students will investigate and report on key concepts relating to asset and maintenance management in their organisation. They will analyse causes and develop solutions to asset and maintenance management problems and recognise and apply quality control procedures and quality assurance systems. This unit also helps students to develop the multi-literacy skills they will require to be a successful learner.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
There are no requisites for this unit.
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Postgraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of 'pass' in order to pass the unit. If any 'pass/fail' tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully ('pass' grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the 'assessment task' section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Consult the University's Grades and Results Policy for more details of interim results and final grades.

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.
Feedback from Unit Evaluation
Students reported lower satisfaction in 2023 Term 1 regarding clear unit requirements and learning materials, despite valuing assessments and relevance.
Learning materials will be streamlined and updated to better align with assessment tasks and support independent study. Unit requirements and assessment expectations will be clearly communicated early in the term via Moodle and the unit profile.
Feedback from Unit Evaluation
Fluctuations suggest a need for improved consistency in delivery and assessment clarity, particularly following changes in coordination and delivery mode.
Assessment updates and marking rubrics will be reviewed and finalised before term commencement to ensure transparency.

The main task will involve developing a continuous improvement plan for an activity or process within your organization. You will receive a sample continuous improvement plan and several templates, which you will need to adapt to your specific organization or facility.

This assessment focuses on the overview of the suite of ISO 55000 standards, as well as Chapters 5, 18, and 29 of Hastings's book, *Physical Asset Management*. The questions will cover the basic principles of asset management that you will apply to your workplace. Additionally, you will need to develop an asset management policy for your organization as part of this assessment. Each part of the question has been assigned a specific number of marks; therefore, it is essential to read each question carefully and address all parts. Please note that a word count limit will apply.

Details regarding the assessment will be available on the unit's Moodle website. This assessment is based on the unit's Learning Guide modules 1, 6, 7, and 8. In your responses, you will need to relate the theoretical processes discussed in the learning materials to your organisation or facility. The main focus of this assessment will be on quality management in maintenance, as well as health and safety in the industry, including an understanding of the legislation relevant to your organisation.
You will be required to improve a specific process or event using appropriate quality management tools applicable to maintenance. Please note that marks have been assigned to each part of the question, so it is important to read the questions carefully and address each part. Additionally, there is a word count limit that applies to this assessment.
As part of your submission, you will also need to prepare a set of PowerPoint slides to demonstrate your communication skills.

- Plan for the solution of the problem, including a selection of relevant tools and techniques and the use of resources.
- Analysis of the problem.
