Overview
Early Childhood Education and Care Placement focuses on the legislative and regulatory environment for provision of high quality education and care in early childhood settings. The unit specifically addresses competency elements from Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care and the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. In this unit you will navigate National laws and National Regulations related to workplace settings to describe and explain the implications of these regulations on the performance of work roles. You will apply this knowledge to scenarios and simulations and demonstrate competence in providing high quality education and care for children from birth to five years in authentic settings during vocational placement/s.

There are no requisites for this unit.
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

1 Written Assessment
This task consists of completing two booklets of short answer questions/quizzes related to policy, procedures and legislative requirements for work in early childhood education and care settings. The booklets will be completed using the unit materials provided on the Moodle site. You will receive guidance during the online Zoom sessions and are encouraged to attend each of the sessions. The short answer questions link to the knowledge that is required for each unit of competency. The answers provide evidence of the knowledge components associated with the units of competence for the qualification/s that are not embedded in coursework and must be completed to satisfy the requirements for the award of the qualification/s. In this version of the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50121), you must also complete all of the requirements for the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121).
This must be completed prior to completing the placement.

2 Portfolio
This assessment task consists of a range of learning log tasks that must be completed within the workplace during the placement. The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121) requires the completion of 160 hours of placement and the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50121) requires the completion of 280 hours of placement. The tasks submitted for each of the portfolios involve planning, observation/s, documentation of learning and reflection. In addition, the collection, annotation and response to workplace policies and procedures is also part of the required documentation for demonstrating elements and performance criteria of the units of competence.
A full outline of all learning log tasks is provided in the booklet called "Workplace tasks and planning" which is available on the course Moodle site. Evidence of completing these tasks must be uploaded to the Moodle site for verification on completion of the placement.
Additionally, you MUST submit evidence of completing the competency HLTAID012: Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting.

3 Professional Practice Placement
Complete a placement in a registered early childhood education and care centre. The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121) requires the completion of 160 hours of placement and the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50121) requires the completion of 280 hours of placement.
The workplace supervisor should complete and sign the Third Party Report as evidence of demonstrated performance of the required tasks within the workplace. The Third Party Report can be found on the unit Moodle site. A copy should be printed and provided to the workplace supervisor at the commencement of the placement. You are responsible for ensuring that you demonstrate the required tasks throughout the placement meeting any stipulations about the number of times performance should be observed recorded on the report. Additionally, you must upload the log sheet showing that you attended for the required time. A copy of the signed Third Party Report must be uploaded to the Moodle site on completion of the placement.

4 Written Assessment
Please submit the relevant documentation to show that you have completed the relevant First Aid competency.
