Overview
Coding, also known as programming or scripting, is an essential literacy in our increasingly digital world. This unit provides a practical introduction to coding using the JavaScript language. You will learn about fundamental programming principles and how they relate to the syntax and control structures of a programming language. You will learn how to analyse computing problems, design algorithms that solve those problems, implement algorithms as computer programs, and test those programs on a computer. Many of the programs that you write in this unit will involve building interactivity into web pages with client-side JavaScript code.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
There are no requisites for this unit.
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

A staff member recommended modifying the assessment to align more closely with the integration of AI in the unit.
The assessment has already been revised to reflect AI inclusion. Further iterations should monitor how well students engage with the expectations and adjust the level of explanation required to confirm individual understanding.
