Overview
The unit introduces students to the principles and practices of infrastructure planning. Topics to be studied include infrastructure evaluation strategies, risk management, environmental and social impacts of infrastructure projects, financial concepts to assess project viability, contractual and participation relationships, management structures and sustainability of projects. Project case studies will be used to support student learning.

There are no requisites for this unit.
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of 'pass' in order to pass the unit. If any 'pass/fail' tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully ('pass' grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the 'assessment task' section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Consult the University's Grades and Results Policy for more details of interim results and final grades.

1. Case study ( 35% of unit )
Case Study
This assessment covers unit learning outcomes (ULO) 1 and 2.
You are to select an infrastructure project that is relevant to Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and complete a case study of this project. This project could be a venue, road, or any type of infrastructure. You will also use this case study in Assessment 2. You will prepare a Risk Break-down Structure (RBS) for this project, develop a risk register for these risks, and discuss the social and environmental impacts of the project.
The GenAI Guidance Level of this task is AI-Assisted (Guided Collaboration). You will be able to use GenAI to develop ideas for this task.

The assessment will be based on the following criteria:
Clarity and succinctness of expression.

2. Case study ( 35% of unit )
Case Study
This assessment covers unit learning outcomes (ULO) 3-6.
You will continue with the case project used in Assessment 1. You will discuss the financial viability, contractual relationships, management strategies of the case project.
The GenAI Guidance Level of this task is AI-Assisted (Guided Collaboration). You will be able to use GenAI to develop ideas for this task.

3. Interactive oral assessment ( 30% of unit )
Interactive Oral Assessments
This assessment covers unit learning outcomes (ULO) 1-6.
This is an interactive oral assessment. This assessment requires students to participate in a 10 min individual interactive oral assessment conducted via Zoom in Week 12 tutorial session. Students' identify will be verified. The time slot for each student will be scheduled by Week 10.
During the session, students will demonstrate their understanding of key concepts, theories, and practices covered in the unit and their ability to apply this knowledge to authentic scenarios and contemporary industry issues. Students will be required to present their responses verbally and engage in a discussion with the assessor. The topics of the assessment will be randomly chosen by students.
This assessment is compulsory with a 40% hurdle (12 marks).
The GenAI Guidance Level of this task is No GenAI use.
Week 12 Friday (12 Feb 2027) 12:00 am AEST
Exam Week Friday (19 Feb 2027)
Within two weeks of submission and before the certification of the grades.
Students will be assessed on their ability to:
