General Information

Overview

This unit introduces you to the roles and responsibilities of being a professional practitioner in the building and construction sector through consideration of professional ethics; personal actions and liabilities; and stakeholder collaboration and involvement. In this unit you will also gain an understanding and learn the application of organisational psychology - theory and practice; project management and control; financial, time, and quality management; construction business planning; trust and general accounts; contemporary office management practices; legal, regulatory, and control measures; and identifying opportunities to implement social innovation practice.

BLAR11049 Built Environment Communication and Skills Or COMM11003 Professional and Technical Communication (before 2012 term 1)

Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Grading

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of 'pass' in order to pass the unit. If any 'pass/fail' tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully ('pass' grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the 'assessment task' section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Task Description

This is an online quiz consisting of multiple-choice questions. The questions are taken from Weekly Topics 1 to 4. The Quiz will be made available on Monday morning of Week 5 and will be closed on the due date. 

 

AI Assessment Scale = No AI (You must not use Al at any point during the assessment. You must demonstrate your core skills and knowledge).

 

This assessment is exempted from the 72-hour submission grace period and must be completed by the stated submission date/time.

Team Presentation and Individual Report

Task Description

This assessment focuses on the Weekly Topics 2, 3, 5, and 6. You are required to form a team of 3-4 members and complete a number of teamwork tasks. The assessment products will include three components: 1) a 15-min team verbal presentation in one of the presentation sessions scheduled in Week 9 and 10 (18 marks); 2) a 500-word individual written report reflecting on the teamwork experiences submitted to the Moodle on or before the due date (8 marks); and 3) completed Self-and-Peer Assessment (SAPA) survey which is embedded in the Assessment Block of the Moodle page (4 marks).

AI Assessment Scale: AI Collaboration (You may use Al to assist with specific tasks such as drafting text, refining and evaluating your work. You must critically evaluate and modify any Al-generated content you use).

Please ensure that you upload your completed work by the nominated due date. Follow the step-by-step instructions provided on-screen during the submission process. Once uploaded, your work will be automatically checked using Turnitin, a tool that detects text similarity to identify possible instances of plagiarism. You are encouraged to review your Turnitin report and, if necessary, revise your work to address any issues before the deadline.

It is essential that your submission is entirely your own. If you use any sources, they must be appropriately cited in accordance with the CQU Harvard referencing style, as outlined in the CQU Harvard referencing guide.
